Lisa hit the eject button on her corporate career in 1997 after a 12 year career in human resources and marketing with Georgia-Pacific and Microsoft. Her love for the very technology that led her INTO her career in the exciting 80’s and 90’s became the basis for her new goal in life – to no longer get 500 emails a day! Lisa then took a crack at starting a golf clothing business having no clue if she’d ever make a hole-in-one as an entrepreneur.
A year after starting the business, a dear friend and former career mentor was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly, Lisa’s mentor died six months later. Life has a way of getting your attention. As Lisa says, “I started questioning everything– what is it really all about?” She sold the business.
Fast forward to January 1, 2000 -- the wee hours of the morning. Lisa is on a bicycle with 250 other cyclists waiting for the start of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. This group of naïve well-intended, folks were starting a year-long journey around the world as a “cool” way to celebrate the millennium. Lisa made it her personal mission to use the bike journey to raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research in honor of her friend while trekking across six continents and over 45 countries.
Lisa returned to the states not having a clue where she was going to live or what she was going to do. She landed temporarily in Atlanta before finding her way to Austin Texas, where she has resided since 2003. Her desire to feed her passion travel passion, inspired Lisa to start a business that allows her maximum flexibility of time. Camco Services, LLC creates loans for affordable housing – singlewide and doublewide manufactured homes. This business allows her time to work on other passions – such as business development for a very cool company called VocationVacations – www.vocationvacations.com.
Lisa likes to think she grew up in the center of the universe – Chillicothe, Ohio – and will debate anyone who challenges this notion. She frequently makes it back to Ohio to visit family and on occasion takes a journey north to visit her alma mater Bowling Green State University. She finds herself spontaneously doing cartwheels across the football field – a throw back to her collegiate cheerleading days.
